Conan vs Leno
In case you have missed this shit storm at late night NBC, here is a quick rundown:
In 2004 Leno makes an announcement that basically outlines his retirement after five more years. This is described as a decision that was made between Leno and NBC together. Leno acts completely fine with this agreement; pleased with his replacement and ready to leave.
Now flashforward to present and it’s a whole different story. Conan moves his family and entire staff to LA only to find out Mr. Leno is not actually ready to leave.
This comes surprising for the viewers but NBC was aware of this. Leno had apparently tried to work out offers with other networks (supposedly a competing show at Conan’s new 11:30 spot on NBC), however, NBC refused to let Leno out of contract early. Holding him as an asset they refuse to loose. So now there’s two guys with big heads fighting over the 11:30 spot on NBC. Everyone knows Conan is the better candidate. What will happy though remains unknown. Gawker is doing a pretty good job recapping each night’s monologue and comments on the matter here. And if you still don’t get it try watching this CGI explanation.
